February 1796 - Theobald Wolf Tone, leader of the United Irishmen flees to France, fearing arrest in Ireland.

February 1882 - Reknowned author, James Joyce is born in Dublin.

February 1972 - British Embassy in Dublin is burned down by angry crowds following a Bloody Sunday protest march.

February 1537 - Tenth Earl of Kildare, Thomas FitzGerald, known as Silken Thomas, is executed in Tyburn, London.

February 1900 - John Redmond is elected leader of the Irish Parliamentary Party.
