Collins - The man who won the war

Michael Collins the man who won the war

A Great read for those already familiar with the basic details of Michael Collins life. This books mostly focuses on Collins military life, his astonshing dismantling of the British Intelligence system in Ireland and his dominance of the War of Independence.

Collins relationship with Eamonn De Valera is also assessed. There is lots of evidence to show Collins devotion to De Valera and his family throughout the War of Independence. Their political differences were profound and De Valera later stated that History would be kind to Collins at De Valera's expense.

The books title comes from Arthur Griffith's speech in the Dáil when he said that Collins was "the man who won the war."

T Ryle Dwyer, a Collins scholar and also the author of 'Big Fellow, Long Fellow', has a good grasp of Collins complex character, his enormous contribution to Irish life and the long shadow that he still casts.
